What is Rock Sitter?

Rock Sitter is a free virtual pet rock you babysit in your browser. It is a very small website where you watch a rock. Most of the time the rock does nothing, which is what rocks are best at. Every so often, something happens: a snail passes, a bird sits down, it rains. Some events are rare. A few are legendary. Some are secrets, and the log won't tell you how to find them.

Your Rock Log saves what you've found on this device, so you can come back and keep collecting. Stay long enough and the rock starts to warm up to you. If you switch tabs, the rock notices, and the timer waits for you.

Tap the rock to pat it. It allows this, within reason. Finish the main log and someone new moves in. Some things only happen on certain days, and one thing almost never happens at all.

Questions

Is Rock Sitter free?

Yes. It runs in any web browser on phone or computer, with no download, account, or sign-up.

Does my progress save?

Your Rock Log, sitting time, daily streak, and Doris's Closet are saved in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data resets them.

How do I find rare events?

Keep the page open. A new event can happen every few seconds while you watch. Rare, legendary, and ultra-rare events each happen at most once a day. Some events only happen at certain times of day, on certain dates, or after you visit several days in a row, and one is a 1 in 10,000 chance.

Who is Doris?

Doris is a second rock who moves in once you finish the main Rock Log. Every 10 minutes she tries on a new look. Some looks are mythic, and seasonal looks are only available in their month.

How many events are there?

The Rock Log has 52 entries: common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and ultra-rare events, secrets, milestones for sitting from 5 minutes up to 3 hours, calendar events, streak rewards, and one grail.

Do I have to feed or clean the rock?

No. A pet rock needs no food, walks, or cleaning. You watch it, and you can tap it to pat it.

What does the $4.99 Supporter option do?

It removes the ads on your device, gives Gerald a red bowtie and Doris a Patron cape, and adds a Supporter badge. It is one payment with no subscription and no account. The game is free without it.

Why does the timer stop when I switch tabs?

Because the rock only counts time you actually spend with it. It also notices when you leave.
